Abstract

The research examined the “role of female journalists on Nigerian broadcast media (A case study of BCOS and NTA Ibadan). Findings have shown that women journalists have contributed to the development of journalism, broadcast media in particular and they are still contributing in so many ways despite the fact that their role as mother, religion, culture, gender disparity and insecurity among others are influencing their performance. Women journalists contribute in so many aspects particularly as anchors of women programmes, family programmes, children programmes, education programmes, fashion and entertainment programmes. Women are also known for their unique contributions in newscasting and serving as major crusaders of the women rights. Survey research method was adopted and 120 copies of questionnaires were printed and distributed to 120 respondents selected, whereas 100 copies of questionnaires were retrieved. Data collected were analysed and interpreted using frequency and percentage method with tables. However, women journalists are more vulnerable to journalism hazard than their male counterpart, many have been rape especially while covering war or crisis zone, kill, beat, kidnapped, threat e. t.c. It is recommended that women should be given specially consideration and received better treatment from their employers during pregnancy, up bring of children e. t. c to enable them cope as mother.
